Abstract
The purpose of this study is to improve the real-time compensation of machining errors caused by deflection of end mills with small diameter like ball end mills. For this purpose, a compensation system of machining error was proposed using the estimation method obtained from the preliminary experiments, and the validity of the system was verified in cutting tests. Cutting tests where the axial depth of cut linearly increased with progress of cutting were carried out to measure cutting forces during end milling operations. As a result, the machining error was able to be reduced about 80% in both down and up cuts with increase in axial depth of cut by the proposed compensation system.
