Abstract

This study developed an automatic tool posture planning method considering collision with in-process shape of a workpiece in five-axis machining. This study proposes a new method to sequentially estimate the in-process shape during the machining process by cutting simulation, and determine the tool postures satisfying both collision avoidance and continuous motion. In order to finish geometric calculation in short time, the simultaneous parallel calculation by GPU is proposed for collision judgments. In addition, by setting the search range of the tool posture, we have developed a new algorithm for searching tool posture aimed at shortening the calculation time and preventing sharp changes of tool posture.
