Abstract
Expressing the coefficient of friction as a function of sliding velocity and taking into consideration the slipping velocity of the belt due to its elasticity, the distribution of belt tension on the pulley surface and the slips in belt transmission are found. Also the maximum load transmitted without sliding slip is determined and it is shown that the driving pulley can transmit a greater force than the driven.
