Abstract
Plastic gears have the advantages of being lightweight, low noise, and useable in oil-less conditions, but they can be used only in low torque conditions. Fiber reinforced plastic gears have the same advantages as plastic gears, but have greater strength and hardness, so they are more suitable for replacing metallic gears to reduce weight and noise. Although there has been much research on metallic gears, there have been few reports about FRP gears, so there is no clear design criteria. Instead, FRP gears are designed on the basis of the little plastic gear test data available and on the experiences reported by engineers. In this study, we investigated the vibration characteristic of FRP gears as an important design criterion. And we evaluated gear meshing with hi-speed Camera.
