Abstract
A precise analysis has been made for the design method of a worm gear-set which has non-intersected and inclined axes. Firstly, theoretical equations are provided for the profile of the type 3 worm or worm hob. Secondly, theoretical equations are derived to represent the profile of the wheel which is cut by this type 3 worm hob. Thirdly, a numerical analysis method is proposed to obtain the tooth contact between the wheel and a type 3 worm. Then, the theory is verified by trial cutting the wheel with the type 3 worm hob and examination of tooth contact.
