Abstract

In skyscraper buildings, a high-speed and large-capacity elevator is necessary. Usually, spherical roller bearings are used for the traction machine of an elevator. As high-speed and large-capacity cause the large temperature rise in bearings, mechanical loss increases and efficiency of the traction machine decreases. From the viewpoint of environment and energysaving, mechanical loss due to bearings should be decreased. In this paper, in order to reduce mechanical loss of spherical roller bearings, raceway surface properties of the bearing were so improved as to control the slip distribution between a raceway and roller. As a result, temperature rise in bearings could be reduced considerably.
