Abstract
Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers (JSME) began the designation of the "Mechanical Engineering Heritage" based on the society's criterion for selection in 2007. In this report, the trends of designation of "Engineering Heritage Award" of Institution of Mechanical Engineers (I. Mech. E.) and "Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmaks" of American Society of Mechanical Engineers are surveyed. In addition, the proposals of the direction at which the designation of "Mechanical Engineering Heritage" of JSME in the future aims are described.
