Abstract
Coil embolization is the most popular method to treat cerebral aneurysms. In this research, anumerical simulation is performed to investigate the hemodynamics of cerebral aneurysms on four patient-specific geometries with various volume(coil) embolization ratios(VER).In order to describe the flow in the coil-embolized aneurysm, the porous media model(Ergun 1952,Chem Eng Prog,48,85-94) is employed.Since it is well known that a reduction of bloodstream or blood flow stagnation within cerebral aneurysms has an important role for enhancement of a blood clot(or thrombus),momentum magnitude ratio(MMR) is here introduced as an indicator to organizethe hemodynamics of the coil-embolized aneurysms. In the results,MMRs tend to decay exponentially with increasing VER in all the aneurysms, and their values almost become the same for VER > 20%.These results indicate that the present analysis based on MMR offers a reasonable evaluation for not only the hemodynamics but also the surgical planning of the cerebral aneurysms.
