Abstract

Wave-making resistance is known as a problem when we improve the speed of a ship and reduce of fuel consumption. This study intends to reduce wave-making resistance by applying Busemann biplane to ship geometry. In this time, we investigated the possibility of reducing the total ship resistance by comparing between model experiment and numerical analysis using catamaran and monohull ship. The results indicate that the ship resistance obtained by numerical analysis agrees well with the experimental one. Furthermore, the characteristic of the wave was checked from wave height distribution and the wave angle occurs from the tip decreases as the increase of Frude number. Total resistance of catamaran is constantly over monohull ship's one in Fr range of this study. Whereas residual resistance of catamaran, it was lower than monohull ship's one in Fr=0.58. As this cause, it is guessed that the interaction between wave-makings from each demihull of catamaran affects it.
