Abstract

Removal of oxide layer on both sides of a flat metal plate by vacuum arc cathode spots were demonstrated with various types of anode. The cathode spots moved much smoothly on the whole surface with a U-shaped anode because they were kept at a constant distance from the anode. As a result, the oxide layer was removed efficiently and fluctuations of the arc voltage were restrained.
