Abstract
There are many valves to drive actuators in hydraulic pressure system. They make it possible to control pressure, flow rate, and direction of flow channel. Spool valve is a type of flow control device, used in various hydraulic systems. In some hydraulic flow control systems, however, the working fluid flow can induce an unexpected rotation of the spool valve. This movement can come to lead a mechanical failure of the valve. In the present study, flow configuration in a spool valve was figured out with CFD analysis. The study showed that an impact flow to the inner shaft of a spool valve causes the valve rotation, and the phenomenon is depending on the inlet configuration of the flow channel in the spool valve. Knowing the phenomenon and the cause of the rotation can lead the rotation to be successfully controlled by changing the geometric configuration.
