Abstract
Diamond turning is an important machining process for producing the precision parts such as lenses and molds. Currently, the diamond turning is increasingly important for machining of ultra-precision small parts. Accordingly, the ultra-precision machine tool that effectively machines these parts is considered in the present study. A water driven turning system was developed for the single point diamond turning for machining small parts with several millimeters. This machining system consists of the water driven spindle and the water driven stage. The spindle and stage equip water hydrostatic bearings and water driven mechanism. In the present paper, the single point diamond turnings are carried out using the water driven turning system. The experimental results show that the surface roughness of diamond turning is approximate 18 nmRa. Influence of water pressure pulsation on the spindle vibration and the machined surface is considered.
