Abstract

Sensitivities of notch detections by the T(0,1) mode guided wave were investigated. Straight and welded-elbow pipes (STPG 100A Schedule 40) were used for the investigation. The sensitivities were obtained experimentally regarding as functions of the notch length, depth, angle to the axial direction, and frequency of the guided wave. It was confirmed that the higher sensitivity was observed at each specific frequency for which the resonance was generated due to the defect. The FEM calculations were also performed to investigate the phenomena. The experimental results agreed well with the calculations.
