Abstract

At present, the pumped-storage hydroelectricity using the pump turbine has been conducted as one kind of approach to global warming. The pump turbine is an important fluid machine for pumped-storage hydroelectricity. However, the internal flow of the pump turbine is complication and the unstable property called “S-shape characteristics” exists. “S-shape characteristics” has been checked experimentally and numerically by getting a performance curve from the result of the performance test in the past researches. In this study, the pump turbine internal flow field was visualized by using PIV and CFD. And it was confirmed that the large vortices exist between guide vane and runner not only in flow direction but also in vertical direction to flow direction.
