Abstract

As aging of population continues to accelerate in recent years, elderly people that require care increase in Japan, and the time period needed for care is also extended. Due to this situation, the importance of care workers is rising. However, work at care facilities is commonly long in working hours, and care assistance work causes many physical burdens, such as backache. Therefore, it has high turnover rate, and its unstable workforce is becoming a problem. In order to improve this situation, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare takes measures to improve environment that is easier for the care workers to work and remedy their work-related problems. We conducted the study for the reduction of physical burden of care workers in order to achieve their healthy and stable employment. In this study, we observed and quantified the movements of an experienced care worker during her care duty in order to explicit the expert's techniques to reduced physical burden based on this data.
