Abstract

In the present study, the elongational flow in particle suspensions which are mixtures of solid particles and liquid, were experimentally examined. Test fluids used in experiments were three mixtures of a heavy water ( an aqueous solution of 18wt% sodium of polytangstate ) and acrylic sphere particles with different concentrations. The elongational flow in particles suspensions was created by a filament stretching method. Consequently, in the measurement of stretching force acting on liquid column, it was found that the time response of stretching force in a stretching process was different from those of filament diameter. It was considered that this difference in time response related to the filament shape. Furthermore, in the observation of liquid filament, the aggregation of particles was seen in the state before a filament fracture, and affected to the stretching force of liquid filament.
