Abstract

The passenger flow rate through a large bus's door is an important characteristic in evacuation planning for tunnel fire. In the present study, a series of experiments were conducted in Japan and Taiwan to measure the flow rates at bus doors including an emergency door. The flow rates per door were 0.57-0.94 persons/s in Japan and 0.58-0.86 persons/s in Taiwan. When multiple doors are available, the evacuation flow rates in total increased to 1.0-1.52 persons/s according as the number of the available door increased.
