Abstract

In recent years, gears are used in many machineries to transmit the motive power. On the other hand, the traction drive transmit the rotating power by using the pressurized oil film. Compared with gears, it has the advantage of low vibration, low noise and no backlash. However, the transmission failure arises from the slip phenomenon such as spin. Therefore, many studies on traction drives. However, there are no example of visualization under practical operation such as being used in motorcar. By visualizing the oil film in the conditions, contributes significantly the elucidation of the slip phenomenon. In this research, the assembly of the experimental device that can visualize the oil film and measurement of the traction force in the practical operation conditions and visualization of the oil film. In the experimental device, we examined the assembly tolerance and assembled the experimental device. In the visualization experiment, we mixed the tracer particles with lubricating oil and visualized and investigated the influence of oil film, cavitation, and particle flow by varying the oil supply amount and creep rate. As a result, the approximate position of the contact ellipse was confirmed from the trajectory of the lubricating oil with mixed the particles.
