Abstract

Automated Tape Laying (ATL) in which Carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) prepreg tape is heated to the vicinity of the melting point and lamination molding is performed in an arbitrary direction have attracted attention in aircraft and automobile applications. A pulse flash lamp has been proposed as a heating source of an ATL apparatus. Compared to the heating method using near infrared heater, the starting speed is high speed, high output, easy temperature control, it is suitable for heating CFRP in a short time. However, few reports have investigated the influence of molding parameters such as heating temperature and feed rate during melting of a tape in a thermoplastic CFRP ATL apparatus using a pulsed flash lamp as a melting behaviour of resin in detail. This study aims to investigate the heating behaviour of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced polyamide 6 (CF / PA 6) prepreg tape in ATL using near infrared heater and flash pulse lamp.
