Abstract

In this paper, the frequency characteristic of flow passing through the wire mesh on the downstream of a circular cylinder have been investigated by FFT analysis. The Reynolds number with respect to the circular cylinder diameter was fixed at 5000. The wire mesh used in the experiment, the wire diameter is 0.23 mm to 1.0 mm and the open area ratio is 49.6 % to 76.4 %. The wire diameter Reynolds number with respect to the wire diameter of the wire mesh is 180 to 800. As the result, the lower frequencies less than 100 Hz are attenuated as the open area ratio decreases. On the other hand, the frequency of the Karman vortex around 400 Hz is attenuates as the mesh wire diameter decreases. The boundary of the phenomenon of the frequency characteristic of flow passing through the wire mesh on the downstream of a circular cylinder is thought to exist at the wire diameter of about 0.6 mm in this experiment. However, the boundary of the open area ratio was not found.
