In this study, two dimensional extrusion flows of concentrated particle suspension were examined. The extrusion flow was provided by inserting a flat type of piston into a test fluid in a slit channel. As the test fluid, we used the mixture of glycerin with polystyrene particles having a mean diameter of 180 μm. The volume fraction of solid particle in fluid was 40%. In the experiments of flow visualization, we confirmed that the flow around the tip of piston became a contraction flow, and that the distance between particles was narrowed by the effect of velocity difference at a contraction part. Furthermore, from enlarged images at the piston tip, it was suggested that the self-filtration in which only liquid among particles flows occurs in the extrusion flow.
