Abstract

Thermal diffusivity of a material which constitutes a tunnel model for a simulation verification experiment is estimated to determine the causes of the difference between data by the simulation and by the experiment. For the estimation, the thermal transient characteristics of the tunnel model made of acrylic shortly after the beginning of heating of the tunnel model is focused on. The thermal transient temperatures of the model tunnel are obtained by the experiment and a numerical calculation of the thermal conduction equation of the model tunnel and both are compared to estimate the thermal diffusivity. To improve the accuracy of the estimation, the thermal time constant of the sensors used for the experiment were measured and the experimental data were compensated by it. The grid spacing of the numerical calculation is equal to the thickness of the sensors. As a result, the estimated thermal diffusivity agrees well with the typical thermal diffusivity of acrylic described in handbooks.
