Abstract

This paper tries to present a new theoretical method for vibration analysis of gears that consists of the theoretical model analysis method, Duhamel’s integral and QR algorithm. Simply, this method called “GVA” method in this paper. In order to confirm the validity of the GVA method, the following two types of research are conducted for the power absorption type of gear test rig. Firstly, three kinds of software are developed based on GVA method, Runge-Kutta (RK) method and Runge-Kutta-Gill (RKG) method. Each software is used to analyze torsional vibration of gears under three conditions: (1) only machining errors are considered; (2) only torque fluctuation of the powder brake is considered; (3) both the machining errors and torque fluctuation are considered. Also, vibration experiments are conducted for the gears used in the analysis. It is found that the GVA method operates well under all the conditions while the other two methods do not work under any conditions. Additionally, frequency components of the gear vibration analyzed by GVA method approximately agree with the experimental ones except for the acceleration magnitude. Therefore, it can be said that GVA method is more effective than RK and RKG method for vibration analysis of gears.
