The Reality of the Garabo Spinning Factory in the “1939 Garabo Spinning Practice Notes”

Abstract

Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, was a major production site of the Garabo spinning industry. One trainee was receiving practical training at a Garabo spinning factory in Okazaki City in 1939 (or 1940). A record of the practice in the form of notes written at that time was found. The practice notes contain the sketch of the Garabo spinning machine and the operation knowhow, etc. The total number of pages is 73 pages. I examined these practice notes and tried analyzing the Garabo spinning technology at the time. As a result, these notes proved to be an extremely important source of information on the actual situation of the Garabo spinning factory around 1939.
