Abstract

In the current, ODS platinum-rhodium alloys are often used in glass manufacturing process. However, there are few reports for the material properties of the same material, especially the fatigue strength. Therefore, in this study, we set the aim to obtain basic fatigue strength characteristics at room temperature by examining the effect of average stress on fatigue strength characteristics and elucidating the damage mechanism. As a result, we obtained the following findings. (1) It has different yield stress in tension and compression, and yields at about 200MPa on the tension, in contradict to it, about -250MPa on the compression. (2) It does not generate fatigue failure in the elastic range, but causes fatigue failure only in the plastic range. (3) It is predicted that the fatigue strength is decreased under the condition of applying the mean stress of tension. (4) Cracks are generated on the surface of the specimen and progress to the inside. In addition, no effect of average stress on fatigue fracture mechanism.
