Abstract

Personal mobility vehicle (PMV) is expected as a new vehicle that solves various problems with automobiles, such as an environmental pollution, an economic waste, and problems in an aging society. The PMV is a one-to-two-seaters vehicle that is more compact than a mini-vehicle and provides easy movement in a region. Although the PMV is a useful vehicle, its size, weight and minimum turning radius are different from those of normal passenger cars, so we think that the method of emergency collision avoidance is different from that of the normal passenger cars.

In this paper, we simulate the situation in which an automatic collision avoidance system of the PMV urgently avoids the obstacle with size of a pedestrian in the center of the road. The avoidance success rate is calculated from the results of the simulations. We also propose a design table for the automatic collision avoidance system of the PMV. The table shows the optimal avoidance method for various running conditions.
