Abstract

Infrared active thermography method is one of convenient non-destructive inspection methods. However, it takes a long time for detecting a subsurface defect which is located deep from the surface or inspecting materials with a low thermal diffusivity. For example, when inspecting concrete structures, the inspection time could be several hundred seconds or more than one thousand seconds. In this study, we aim to shorten the inspection time of active thermography inspection for concrete structures based on the thermal wave theory, and examine the effectiveness of the short time inspection through experiments using the thermal waves generated by periodic heating.
