CFD study of a vertical axis wind turbine driven by longitudinal vortex

Abstract

A CFD study of vertical axis wind turbine driven by longitudinal “necklace” vortex is conducted, and the results are compared to experimental data from wind tunnel experiment. CFD results showed a good agreement with experimental data (Cp error is about 4% for the finest mesh). Analysis of phenomena occurring at different rotational angle ranges and proposals for power efficiency enhancing are made.
