Abstract

The oldest existing domestic elevator is on display at the Turuga City Museum in Fukui Prefecture. This machine was manufactured by the former Nippon Elevator Manufacturing Co., Ltd.( founded in 1919) in 1925-1926. And it was installed to the bank, original owner of this museum building in 1927. This company is the first domestic elevator manufacturer in Japan. Not only produced elevators using many patents, but also helped to trigger the establishment of many other domestic elevator makers. This heritage, which given us a major turning point in the history of elevators in Japan, can be regarded as extremely important in the history of technology. This paper is an overview of the elevator by our field survey.
