A Study on the Mechanisms of the Manual Garabo Spinning Machines in the Meiji Period

Abstract

There are five historic manual Garabo spinning machines in Japan. The Garabo spinning machine is a spinning machine unique to Japan. The spinning mechanisms of these five machines were compared and studied. As a result, it was speculated that four of the machines imitated the Garabo spinning machine exhibited by "GAUNN Tokimune" at the first National Industrial Exhibition in 1877, but the one remaining machine was the product of a different idea.
