Abstract

Against the background of increase of the overseas dependence of a fossil fuel, the effective use of the domestic fuel is hoped in which production and supply are possible. As one of the domestic fuels, the biomass ethanol is drawing attention. On the other hand, in our country, various disasters occur and reservation of an energy source may fall into the difficult situation. So the development of the portable equipment is needed that can perform heating and a food preparation, without depending on a fossil fuel or an electric power at a natural disaster. In this research, we examined refinement and practical use of the versatile biomass ethanol. First of all, we refined the biomass ethanol fuel using a sweet potato as materials. Finally, we aim at the ethanol refinement from a food residue. In the beginning, we made a starch saccharify by koji. Next, we performed fermentation by yeast. In the end, the biomass ethanol fuel of alcohol percentage of 92% was completed by distillation. Moreover, we experimentally made the ethanol heater, and conducted the combustion experiment of the generated biomass ethanol. And we evaluated the effectivity as fuel. The ethanol heater which we propose in this research becomes the useful equipment at the time of the natural disaster which may occur from now on.
