Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate whether bamboo gear can replace POM gear.This research was carried out to compare dynamic performance of a bamboo gear reinforced by bamboo fiber bundles and POM (polyacetal) gear.At first,relationship between tensile and flexural strength and molding temperature of bamboo fabrication was examined. Afterwards, relationship between tensile and flexural strength and bamboo fiber bundle contents was examined.Next,cylindrical pre-bamboo product contained bamboo powder and fiber bundles was fabricated.Then,the product was processed into the gear using the gear hobbing machine.Finally,sound level,flash-temperature and wear of bamboo gear were determined in using dynamic testing machine.As a result,bamboo fabrication contained bamboo 70% fiber bundles showed higher flexural strength than POM.Bamboo gear reinforced by bamboo fiber bundles showed that durability of spur gear is improved.Moreover,bamboo gears contained 50% and 70% fiber bundles showed less sound level than POM gear when they were driven under the condition of torque 1.5Nm and rotational speed 1000 rpm.
