Abstract

Friction surfaces are hidden, and what is happening on the friction surface cannot be understood without opening, observing and analyzing. However, since the result is after the phenomena have already ended, it is hard to say that the actual phenomena can be evaluated. Also, since the wear phenomena start from the deformation of the surface due to friction, it is necessary to investigate the series of tribological processes from deformation to fracture. In this study, the tribological processes at the buried interface were visualized with the in situ observation and acoustic emission (AE) measurement, and clarified their characteristics. As a result, it was found that the amount of slip band formation under the friction surface differs depending on the lubrication condition, and there is a correlation between the slip band length and the AE signal amplitude. The results of this study will be useful information for elucidating the wear mechanism and AE sensing of tribological phenomena.
