Abstract

Milling is one of the most important machning processes, and the deflection of a spindle and a cutting tool is the dominant factor of machining-error. The machining-error is determined by the cutting force and the stiffness of the spindle and the cutting tool . However, the stiffness of the spindle is affected by the type of the machine tool and the deterioration of the machine tool, as a result, the machining-error variation occurs as the machine tools and manufacturing sites are different. In order to reduce those variation, reworking and redesign of processes are sometimes necessary. However, these additional processes increase manufacturing lead time. Therefore, in this study, a technology for predicting and correcting the machining-error during milling process by using cutting simulation has been developed in order to obtain high machining accuracy regardless of the machine tools and manufacturing sites.
