Abstract

In this study, we have developed a four-roller type table tennis machine that can shoot balls such as a top, back, side and gyro rotations with high speed and spin rate, which are difficult to shoot with existing table tennis machines. Using the developed machine, the table tennis ball was bounced on the table tennis table, and it was investigated the dynamic behavior of the ball before and after the collision. In addition, collision and rebound simulations were performed using the finite element models of a table tennis ball and table. From the results of the bound experiment and simulation, it was found that the coefficient of restitution, flight trajectory and spin rate after the bound change depending on the spin types and the value of the coefficient of friction between the ball and table. In addition, these values were significantly different between the side and gyro spins.
