Abstract

In this study, a novel non-invasive diagnostic system of diabetes is proposed on the basis of Polarization Sensitive Doppler OCT (PS-D OCT). This can provide not only polarization information of tissue, i.e. retardation, but also capillary network, i.e. Doppler phase, as xy cross-section around upper dermis. In this experiment, PS-D OCT was applied to human forearm skin before and after meal, when blood glucose level was varying. As a result, this system can tomographically visualize insulin secretion function as capillary dilation. Consequently, it was concluded that there could be promising potential of non-invasive diagnosis of diabetes.
