Abstract

In the sport of Kendo, bamboo swords, or "Shinai", utilize cowhide in components such as the tip cover and the binding. Because cowhide is a natural material, its quality vary significantly, leading to reports of some cowhide parts breaking after just a few uses. To prevent accidents caused by these breakages, a method for evaluating the durability of leather materials was developed, involving a repetitive impact test device. Additionally, by laminating artificial leather, materials have been developed that offers equal or greater impact durability compared to cowhide leather parts.
