Abstract
In the present study the time variation of velocity and the distribution of wall shear stress in right angle branch have been experimentally studied in laminar steady flow by using a laser Doppler velocimeter. A side branch 8mm in diameter bifurcates from a trunk 24.5mm in diameter, and both upstream and downstream corners at the entrance of the side branch are square edge. The Strouhal number based on the variables in the side branch approximately is constant. In side branch, there are two symmetrical pairs of large vortices and small vortices. The fluid oscillation might be induced at the boundary between two vortices.
