Abstract
The water hammer effect is observed when constant flow in a pipe is stopped suddenly. In this paper this effect is simulated using the simple ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian) method and the fluid-structure coupling capability in a commercial nonlinear structure analysis software LS-DYNA. The result of the simulation shows realistic behavior of water and the pipe and the feasibility of this approach to model the water hammer effect can be shown.
