Abstract

Precision machining is in greater demand with the recent development of faster industrial machines. Two simultaneous control axes of machine tools are commonly used for machining two-dimensional objects. This method has an inherent problem, however, the quadrant protrusions at specific area which deteriorate accuracy of the object can not be avoidable. This paper proposes a method wherein a circular is controlled as a redundant control axis such as to avoid quadrant protrusions. The relation between rotating angle of the circular and conventional spindle position are derived based on the direction of movement of the controlled axis by a graphical method. The effectiveness of this method was verified by simulations and actual machining tests.
