Abstract
An embodied virtual wave communication system provides virtual face-to-face communication environments where two remote talkers communicate through their simplified virtual waves (VWs) representing their face-to-face interactive behavior on the basis of their motions and voices. Talkers can obtain interaction awareness by observing their interaction of VWs including themselves in the same virtual space. In this paper, by using the system, human interaction is analyzed by synthesis in various conditions such as the time lag of voice and motion, the effectiveness of the system is demonstrated, and the importance of sharing mutual embodiment in communication is pointed out. The system would be expected to form the new communicative mode for remote interaction as well as the methodology for the analysis and understanding of various human interactions.
