Abstract
This paper describes a development of displacement distribution measurement system using the digital image correlation method and an application to detect the feature on the crack in ceramics. The system consists of an image acquisition system, an image analysis system and an optical microscope. Two images are acquired by using a 0.9 Mega pixel CCD camera through a microscope. The displacement fields can be determined by means of the digital image correlation method. Crack opening displacement, COD, in cracked ceramics was successfully measured using the developed system. It was found that an amount of COD in ceramics depended on the type of crack. If the crack was introduced by fatigue loading, the COD at crack tip was smaller than that under monotonic loading.
