Abstract
In order to clarify the effect of the microscopic surface structure of rolled sheet on its surface gloss, the experiments of cold rolling are made using stainless steel (SUS430) sheets with two kinds of surface roughness at the entry of rolling and using rolls with four kinds of surface roughness. Then, the factors affecting the surface gloss of rolled sheet and its characteristics are discussed by the analyses with a mirror gloss meter, a two dimensional roughness meter and an image analysis apparatus. As a result, it has been found that the surface gloss is much affected by the ratio of flat area in the case of surface roughness with less than about 0.1μmRa.
