Abstract

Conical involute gears used for marine transmission are mostly helical conical involute gears. Besides these gears are not intersecting axis gears but also nonintersecting-nonparallel axis gears. In this case the contact between tooth surfaces of a pair of gears is point contact. Hence the tooth surface durability is generally small. In this research is aimed at the establishment of the design and production system of the Concave conical gears for marine transmissions. In this paper, an allowable normal load of a pair of Nonintersecting-Nonparallel axis concave conical gear is obtained, and a new designing method for these gears is presented. Tooth bearing tests prove that the Heltzian contact ellipse is larger than that of the conventional conical gear. Thus it is proved that this designing method is of practical use.
