Abstract

It seems more understanding that the tooth surface modification is very important to increase the performance of gear drives. The random pitch errors of the gears may play as a kind of the tooth surface modification. In this paper, the vibration and noise of the super and helical gears with the random pitch errors given intentionally were measured and compared with that of the gears with almost no pitch error. In consequence, it was found that the random pitch error given intentionally has a possibility to reduce the vibration and noise of the gears and widen the range of the frequency.
