Abstract

In the piping of the food industries, chemicals, hot water, sterilization by steam, and cleaning are carried out every day to hold generation of bacteria. Therefore, the gasket is easy to deteriorate, and results in leak from the joint or contamination of the gasket piece into the product. This paper deals with a new seal system between flange joints without using gasket. This sanitary gasketless flange includes a groove and annular lip that is machined in one of the flange being in contact with the other flange to form a seal line when the flanges are assembled. In this study, a new seal system is considered useful for food industries. Fundamental dimensions are examined for SUS304 to obtain the best sealing performance and optimal shape.
