Abstract
Dynamic pressure type foil bearings are expected to serve as bearings for micro gas turbine use because its maintenanceability. However, details of design guidelines have not yet been clarified although this technology is already used in APC for aircraft units. In this study, as an extension of leakage flow theory, dynamic modeling of the fluid coupled thin film is conducted. Taking fluid dynamic forces as well as frictional forces acting on the attachment part of the foil through the protrusions on the thin metal foil into consideration, static and dynamic characteristic of foil journal bearing were analyzed to examine performance and stability of the radial foil bearing.
