Abstract
High-temperature oxidation behavior of SiC-coated SiC/C composites were examined between 873K and 1873K in air. The SiC-coated SiC/C composites showed much better oxidation resistance than SiC-coated C/C composites. The excellent oxidation resistance of SiC-coated SiC/C composites was obtained because the number of coating cracks was very small. In addition, the SiC-coated SiC/C composite was shown to maintain high strength even at 1673K in air.
