Abstract
Polonium production in utilization of Lead-Bismuth-Eutectic (LBE) as coolant in nuclear systems is one of the problems to be solved. The investigations of the characteristic of the contamination in primary loop of LBE cooled reactor by polonium produced in LBE and the decontamination method for the polonium are needed. A chemical form of polonium in LBE and the dissociation of lead polonide at 600℃ were investigated by experiments. The effectiveness of the vacuum baking method for decontamination of polonium on a SS316 plate was also investigated by experiments. The experimental results showed the chemical form of polonium in LBE and the dissociation of lead polonide. It was also showed that polonium could be removed from SS316 surface by the vacuum baking method when the polonium contamination was heated over 500℃ in a vacuum condition (0.4Pa).
