Abstract

This paper reports an unconstrained non-invasive sensing technique for monitoring the respiration and heartbeats using four pieces of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) pizeopolymer films sensor developed for premature infants. The PVDF films are placed under the sheet at the location of the body of a premature infant to pick up the fluctuation of the pressure on the bed caused by the respiratory movements and heartbeats. A silicon rubber layer is placed under the PVDF films to enhance the sensitivity of the sensor. Preliminary experiments and clinical experiments verified the simultaneous detection of the respiration and heartbeats using the sensor.
